For the past year, Chris and I have been planning a trip to Switzerland. We bought plane tickets and found some amazing places to stay on Airbnb. Over the past year we also moved to Oregon and Chris got a new job. A few weeks ago, Chris’s job asked him to reschedule our vacation around a special event he had to work. So we figured out a way to reschedule. So, we bought new flights, weren’t reimbursed for the old ones- but it was okay. We also cancelled our previous Airbnb and found an amazing new one to stay in. Annoying, but not a big deal.
Then this week, his work announced some upcoming events that happen during our NEW itinerary, and it’s an all hands on deck kind of situation. Basically Chris can’t make this trip, so it’s looking like I’ll be heading to Switzerland alone!
I won’t lie, it’s a little nerve racking. I’ve done solo road trips for days at a time, but never anything like this. I’m not stressed to be alone in a different country, it’s the small things I’m stressed about. Renting a car, driving in another country, setting up my own sim card, finding the way to my Airbnb, etc… Life is a little easier when you have someone else helping you sort it all out. Despite the unfortunate news, I feel like I would be doing myself a disservice by refusing to go alone. I think some of the strongest personal moments happen when you only have yourself to rely on. So… next month I’ll be heading overseas on my first solo international vacation.
There will be many stories, many photos, and TONS of travel advice for first time solo travelers. I’ll keep you all updated!
