Previous to this day, I heard Nevada and automatically thought Vegas, or Reno. Not anymore. Now when I hear Nevada, I think about the beautiful Valley of Fire State Park. As a Utah girl I’ve spent a lot of time in deserts. None have ever been remotely similar to Valley of Fire, though. It’s only an hour outside of Vegas, making it the perfect destination for a day trip.
Las Vegas can get overwhelming, between the people, the lights, the sounds, the SMELLS, and the lack of empty space. Not a problem in Valley of Fire. You’ll get the weekend crowds, or the family vacation travelers over the holidays, but if you can make it midweek, you can almost have the park to yourself. It’s best to avoid Valley of Fire June thru September since it pushes over 100 degrees. If you decide to brave the heat, make to sure to pack and drink tons of water.
